My Reviews
I don't normally read books like this, but it was given to me by a friend and I really enjoyed reading it. It opened my mind to a much larger picture of astrology and gave me inspiration and insight into my own soul searching. The author's style of writing is captivating and is rich with interesting concepts. I looked forward to reading each chapter and each new level of depth it took me.
This book looked really interesting when I picked it up, but I found it rather dull and difficult to read. I got about 3/4 the way through and didn't finish it. I'm accustomed to reading books on yoga and yoga philosophy, but this book seemed to just sort of meander without a focused message, nor anything really insightful.
This is perhaps the most profound book on yoga I have ever read. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are regarded as one of the most ancient and essential written works on yoga, and this particular translation is especially insightful. With a explanation of each aphorism, it's much easier to grasp the esoteric and abstract meanings.
I highly recommend this to anyone who has a serious interest in the philosophy and ways of yoga.
Malcolm Gladwell offers some novel viewpoints on the balance of intelligence and opportunity that result in phenomenal success... or what he calls 'outliers'. He shows by real-world examples and case studies that having a high IQ alone does not insure success. It's fascinating to read and I'm sure it will give you insight into your own life, as it has for me.
This book really opened my eyes up to recognize greater patterns in our society and the roles we take on. I'm reading this book for a second time because it is so full of great information and wonderfully written. I have not read this in a book club, though I definitely think it's the type of book that opens many doors for discussion.
