My Reviews
Loved the book because there is something for just about everyone. Loved the relationships between the diverse women. Looking fwd to our bookclub's discussion.
I just didn't get all the hype over this book. I found it boring and difficult to get through.
Good book. Easy summer read. I thought the beginning took too long for the author to establish the characters and bring the plot together (when they all come together in Nantucket). It touched on a variety of life issues... marriage, infidelity, death...etc. After the slow beginning...I ended up really liking the book.
Great book. I didn't want to put this book down. It went back and forth from 1942 and 2006 between two stories that were unrelated until the character in 2006, a journalist was assigned to write a story about the Vel' de Hiv. She becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Sarah, one of the French Jewish children that was rounded up in 1942. Very moving story and an important one not to forget. This is a story that will stick with me forever.
I enjoyed this book. It related to the occupations that took place during WWII... similar to Sarah's KEy. It was about a group of neighbors that relied on each other while their island was taken over by the occupation by getting together under the premise that they are a literary club.
Our bookclub enjoyed this book. Everyone liked the way the author used cooking to invoke emotions and make you connect with the story. I enjoyed the relationships between the characters. We also enjoyed a great phone interview with the author, Erica Bauermeister. She was gracious, funny and encouraging. We look fwd to her next book.
Really liked this book. Compelling story of a mother that has a child, Anna, to save her child, Kate who has a rare leukemia. Very moving book. I look fwd to our discussion this wed.
I liked it but was expecting it to be better.
Our first book club selection for our new book club! We all really enjoyed this book.
Was okay. Not my favorite. I skimmed through alot so I could get to the end for bookclub! Although i thought it was just okay there were several members that really enjoyed this book, which is why I gave it a thumbs up.
I felt the beginning was slow but 1/2 way through the book i couldn't put it down. I wanted to read the next chapter. It was very interesting and moving. Should make for good discussions at the meeting about roles of women/wives.
I had a hard time reading this and quit at about page 100 due to things going on. Well, i am so glad i picked it back up! Once it got going it was good. Slow to start, but it picks up and ends up to be a good read.
Our bookclub enjoyed this book and it made for good discussion as we were all different ages during the 60's. It averaged 3.5 stars with our bookclub.
