My Reviews
True horror presented in a realistic and believable setting. Adventurous, suspenseful and disturbing.
Not just another novel about New York City Police. Mackie stands out as an ex-New York cop himself who knows how to write a good story that will keep you engaged until the very last page.
The protagonist is a newspaper reporter. Sound boring? Don't judge this book by it's cover. Very realistic and likable characters with action that will keep your heart racing with every turn of the page.
I read this book in 9th grade and again in adulthood, and each time was sucked in to the evil underworld that Masterson created so eloquently. Not by any means realistic, but nonetheless fantastic.
Two incredible and epic novels of life and lawlessness together in one book. I've read a number of westerns, but none can hold a candle to the heart stopping action and adventures you will find here.
Don't miss out on where all the movies and the TV series got their start, because nothing compares to this original. This book will take you on an adventure into an unrealistic world that the author somehow makes real. A story that will keep your mental wheels spinning long after you're done reading it.
A mind bending psychological thriller and love story all in one. Unrealistic perhaps, but at times I still had to wonder, could something like this really happen? This is a story about the struggles we all face over everyday decisions and their resultant consequences. Likable characters, thought provoking and fast paced with almost non-stop action from cover to cover.
A mysterious and fantastic quest for the truth which reminded me of episodes of the Twilight Zone. But I couldn't help but continuously wonder, what if this happened to me? When all roads lead to a dead end, where do you go from there? A great, insightful and thought provoking story that was hard to step away from.
Ever wonder what life was like on earth 25,000 years ago? This book put me there, in the cave with the Neanderthals. This is an amazing epic story of how Neanderthals likely lived, from their incredible victories to their crushing defeats. The evil men do is clearly shown to be a phenomenon that transcends the centuries. But at the same time, this is ultimately a story of how love has the power to conquer all.
There is no shortage of books written about pre-Civil War America, but this one was actually written by an author who lived through it. This book has even been thought to have perhaps provided the spark for the beginning of the war. Uncle Tom's Cabin has not survived without controversy, and it is clearly a work of fiction written by a woman who lived a life of some privilege in the north. Nonetheless, Harriet Beecher Stowe brought her characters to life in a dark, realistic setting and wrote a gut-wrenching story of what life may very well have been like for many people during her time. A story that will stick with you long after you are done reading it.
A father and son struggle for survival as they travel together day to day in a post-apocalyptic America that could one day become our reality. This author effectively puts you on that road with the man and boy and invokes self introspection with the most difficult of questions. How much are we simply a product of our circumstances? What would it take to break our spirit and abandon our morals? The story may not be a happy one, but ultimately I found it inspiring and believe the underlying theme to be that even in the darkest of times, good will find a way to triumph over evil.
This is where the saga of the Sackett family begins, hundreds of years ago when the first Sackett made his way across the Atlantic in the hold of a pirate ship. I've read plenty of books by Louis L'Amour, but none compare to this one and the three that follow in the series. This is true adventure in an authentic setting that will leave you wanting for more.
If you're a Star Trek TNG fan, then this book is a must for you! I've read countless Star Trek TNG books and this one is the best! The author doesn't just know how to tell a good story, but also knows and understands the members of the Starship Enterprise. All the action, drama and suspense that you have come to expect from the Enterprise NCC-1701-D crew is waiting for you right here!
A family saga that begins in Africa in the year 1750. A community that is basically happy and content is suddenly rocked by tragedy, and life will never be the same again for Kunta Kinte. Follow him through trials that no human being should ever have to endure. Kinte's story is long and painful, but ultimately uplifting and satisfying.
