My Reviews
This was such a great read! Easy, funny, witty, and touching. I recommend this book to every woman I come across. I totally don't understand the women that posted that this book was a tough read and that they had to suffer thru it...really? I knocked this book out in no time flat and I was so sad when it came to an end.
Elizabeth Gilbert is currently writing another book about marriage and even as a currently unmarried woman, I can't wait to see what she has to say.
What a boring, boring book. I love a book with lots of description, but good grief, this book was pages and pages of wash, rinse and repeat. Wake up, ride, break for lunch, ride more, break for dinner, sleep, wake up, ride...etc....pages of this. Once this stopped it was a ton of incomplete relationships, vague conversations, and lots and lots of horse.
This book was a pain to read. It got decent in the 3rd chapter (and mind you, there are only 4 chapters in this book). The releationships were still incomplete, the conversations were still vague but at least around this time there was some action going on. But still, boring.
And seriously, I think Carmac McCarthy owns stock in the word "and". There are some sentences that run 10 and 11 lines long and contain an equal amount of "and's". Most of these run-on sentences add nothing to the story which makes them even harder to stomach.
Honestly if you don't read this book you won't be missing anything. I felt like I wasted a ton of my time reading a bad book when I could have been enjoying a better read.
I would recommend this book for only two reasons. One, some people love this book. They think it’s beautiful and touching. Second, even though it’s tough to read, it’s interesting enough to discuss and "rewrite" in your bookclub discussion.
This was a great read - quick, curious and entertaining! Unfortunately not a bookclub type read though. There's nothing to really talk about after you've read it. You either liked it or you didn't. Nothing really meaty to get into. I recommend this as a book to read inbetween bookclub books for a fun and entertaining read or as a book for a bookclub that feels like they're in a bad book reading rut. (Our bookclub was trying to recover from two back-to-back boring/bad books and this kinda got us back on track - for the majority of us anyway!)
Well written, great story line, and a total page turner. What more could you ask for! Don't watch the movie though...its so bad and incomplete.
Was surprised that I was so wrapped up in this book. I assumed that it was going to be childish and poorly written but it was totally addictive and really good. I can wait to read New Moon!!!
