My Reviews
Our entire book club enjoyed this book. Doreen's wit and the fast pace of her writing was thoroughly enjoyed by our group. The book had us laughing out loud. It is billed as a "travelogue" but it is so much more. Doreen shares the transformation of everyone in the bus, including her delightful four-footed friends during their year journey.
How lucky was I to have chosen this book for our first ever meeting. I was the host. The book is a party into itself. Her martini recipes are fabulous and of course we all wore our tiaras while sipping them.
Proved for a good degree of discussion and fun. Just what we needed!
I couldn't give it the "one of my favorite book club books" only because this is our FIRST book club book. But I think it just might wind up being one of our favorites. We'll have to let you know.
Most of us loved the book. We tried to imagine how historical moments may be seen in a different light had woman been the ones to write them. Found it fascinating how one line in the Bible became a fictional novel.
Our members are of different ages and have been brought up in different locations. However, what struck us most is that this situation happened in our lifetime - this is not ancient history. The information that the author gave us about the lives of all of the woman from Jackson, Mississippi during those years was insightful.
