My Reviews
Sparks does not disappoint his fans! Watching how he intertwines the life of a budding adult with that of the everyday trials and tribulations of her parents and others around her is like watching a great play move from Act 1 to the Final Act!
Kathryn Stockett takes the readers on a trip back in time...and we enjoy the trip so much we want more! How many of us have romanticized living back in a different time? This book gives you a chance to see what life was really like and regain your faith in mankind's ability to rise above the tides of change.
I loved how each of the subplots were woven into the main plot - very subtle. Yet, I eagerly anticipated the resolution of each. I was a little disappointed to not have more details on the Lisabeth character. Being such a main player - there was a lot to divulge on her and her history. Perhaps it was intentional to leave the reader wanting more?
I was moved by the age of the main character as well as the drive and determination (which she obviously learned from her mother). In an age when woman were of little value - this one truly broke the mold! Just goes to show woman's rights have long been a timely topic. Our girls in the 21st Century will read this and certainly come away with some extra armour to help build their self confidence having learned from their distance "sister"!
Classic memory prompter for anyone who has had a long-term friendship be it male or female! Even more so for those of us that grew up in the 70's. Tully and Kate are people we know and love - they just answer to different names in our own lives.
I loved the development of the characters and the story. For the first time a flashback truly answered all the burning questions!! To steal from the author - Good Job, Sandra!
