My Reviews
I loved this book it was so sweet and warm. I cried during the last 3 chapters.
Friendship like the one these five women found in each other I can say I have never been this luck. I envy their devotion to each other and their committment to their relationships. 35 years of any kind of relationship is commendable and admirable. I think anyone whould be luck to find one friend that would see you through a life time of highs and lows. Each character I found enjoyable and enchanting. I think that everyone should take a picture in a coffin, it should be mandatory in every young girls life. (best scene in the book)
Our group for the first time ever aborted reading this book because it was so boring. Three chapters - get off the horse already.
This book was pure history lesson. More than my group was wiling to get into. So detailed with dates and ture histrorical facts that we did not expect
I have read Snowflower and Peony (which was my favorite) and now Shanghai Girls. This is a beautiful story of sisters, respect, obligation, honor, misunderstanding and duty. Lisa See transports you into this time with vivid imagery and grace. We passed this book around as our in between book and everyone is praying for a sequal. This will not disappoint if you are a Lisa See fan.
I had to share - Last nite I just finished Mitch Albom's "Have A Little Faith" and I can't get this book out of my head. I read it in a day and a half But I have to tell you that I cried thru the entire book (good cry). The reviews that I have been reading on amazon are blowing me away. The exploration and strenght in (a) Faith in this book is inspiring. This should be on our kids reading list. Have A Little Faith makes me think about the importance of faith in my life. I don't read the Bible on a regular basis, but the Bible verses and quotes in this book are very thoughtful. Everyone has the ability to help other people and influence lives, no matter what faith they believe in. This is the most important thing I learned from reading this book. Another important lesson in this book is to live life to the fullest and to appreciate everything in life.
Albom profiles two men in this book who have influenced so many lives. One of them is a Jewish rabbi that at 82 asked Mitch to say his Eulogy, and th other is a ex drug dealer, theift, turned Christian pastor of a impovished minstry. Their lives take very different paths but the common thread between them is faith and hope. It is interesting to read how Albom's life changes because of these two men. I truly believe that faith can change lives after reading this book.
What if faith wasn't what divided us, but what brought us together?"
This interseting question makes us all think.
THE LAST LINE OF THE BOOK IS 'IM IN LOVE WITH HOPE" ----
No real story line, was not enjoyable, very boring how this necklace affected these women's lives.. sorry a snooze
This book is not what you think, it is not a said omg my kid has cancer book. This is a beautiful story of what a 6yo little girl taught her family about life, love and courage. A must read and a true tear jerker (good tears) "Never look at today as a bad day, because this may be better than tomorrow. Just thank god you have the day at all" pg177 says it all.. I LOVED THIS BOOK AND I LOVED ELENA
Great read, combination of Pillars of the Earth and The Other Boyelan Girl. The intrigue, backstabbing and suspence of this book held me captive till the very last page. Definite great book club book
This was this months reading for our club and we have not had the discussion as of yet. However, there was no grab to this story. I felt it was slow, no climax, predicable and another saturday lifetime movie.. sorry was not a fan.
I loved this book to the very last paragraph. This is a must read, if you are a fan of "Pillars", "World without end" or the "White Queen" then this is worth the time. The latin and greek was a little much but well worth the adventure
