My Reviews
It took about 40 pages into the book before I decided I was going to like it. Enjoyed the search for the missing person, but felt the author could have cut out about 100 pages and still meet the desired story line.
I couldn't get past the way the words were written. I don't like to struggle with words when I read. I did not finish the book because of this
This was an easy read. We had a good discussion on the main character and if he was likable or not.
This was fun to read because it went through history and I found I couldn't wait to see how the author would incorporate the next historical person into the story. It is not the best writing but is easy to read. We did not have much of a discussion but it was a light book to pick up over the holiday season.
This was a simple story. There were 12 memebers at the meeting and they all liked, not loved it.
The author did a lot of research to get us to know about Henrietta as well as the scientific side of her story.
My book club questioned if the author had mental illness like her mother, outside of her brain injury. Book did not flow well.
I like the way he writes and wish he wrote novels. I think I would enjoy them. I did think it was too long and he could of cut some sections out that were not interesting.
I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but the middle got too long and dragged. I enjoyed the medical aspect. Most everyone in the book club loved it. Had a discussion on the meaning of the title.
Even though it was written as letters, the author wrote a beautiful story. We learned about a place we were not familiar with.
Most of the members liked this book, but I did not enjoy it. Didn't follow the characters. I didn't read the last 80 pages. All agreed the main character was not likeable.
Everyone enjoyed the book, but it wasn't a favorite. It was interesting to read how they survived in the museum. Very sad about the present day Marina.
Not everyone in the bookclub will agree on what the right decision should be for the memorial. The writing was very good and I would read more books when she writes them.
Everyone loved the book. They learned about leprosy, something they only read about in the Bible. Enjoyed the hawaiian words throughout the story.
It was an interesting read because I always liked JFK Jr., but it was not a good book club selection. The members liked the book but there wasn\'t much discussion about the book. Nobody cared for the author.
Person who selected it heard it was a good summer read but it was not. Difficult read and confusing. Well written however
Everyone enjoyed the book, and thought the writing was good. Living in NC and the setting of the book being in NC made it fun to read. Ending was somewhat disappointing.
Strong main character. Interesting character interactions. Easy to read.
Loved the way he expressed his thoughts on life.
Everyone liked the book and the characters. Interesting to learn about the historic orphan train.
The author came to the meeting because the host was friend's with her. This made it interesting as we asked her how she came about writing romance novels. This is her first novel. It is better than the romance novels I read in the past as the story line was entertaining and insightful. This is a fast read and good for those that like romance novels.
Everything was a downer, no bright spots. This will not put anyone in a happy mood at a book club.
Everyone in book club liked it. Good descriptive characters. Kept you wanting to find out what happened at school function.
Emotional, funny, inspiring story. Everyone in the book club loved the book, especially the character Ove.
Didn't know it at the time the book was selected but this is like a romance novel, simplistic and predictable. The location the story took place in seemed nice. Everyone liked the book but there wasn't much of a discussion.
Kristin Hannah is one of our favorite authors, but most of us could not finish this book. Story was not interesting enough and hard to follow.
Everyone liked it. Both sad and happy parts. All wanted to go to a bookstore like that
Story was unrealistic. Thought author was trying too hard to be funny. Story line was not funny.
Everyone liked this book as it was about a book club. Some related to the characters so they liked it more. Author should have developed more of the characters to make the book more interesting.
William is a great writer and we look forward to his next book. Most were able to figure out who did it. Story flowed well.
