My Reviews
This is a great story about a young man who suddenly lost everything, ran away and unintentionally joined a circus, finds true love, and a life he never knew he had prepared for. I enjoyed going back and forth between young Jacob and old Jacob. I also liked that Sara incorporated circus photos from the era.
The beginning of the book is terrible. The guilt that the little girl's father lives with is also terrible. His weekend with God is inspiring to say the least. I thought some of the conversation with God were more than I could handle, but Young's concept of Father, Son and Holy Spirit as separate entities but as one whole, and the roles each play really touched something in me. After reading this, even though I'm not close with my church, I want to strengthen my relationship with God.
There are so many choices made by the characters that create great discussion topics. A real tearjerker!
I am not a big fan of this book. I did however love the ACLU attorney character and her relationship with the doctor.
This book reminds me of a dark cartoon. I can see why his graphic novels are so popular. I just couldn't get in to it.
I enjoyed this book even though it was a little predictable - especially the professor's intentions. I loved the Milk Street house and thinking about her ancestors living there before her.. I would have liked the author to let us better understand why the mother and grandmother's relationship fell apart.
liked this book a lot...once I got in to it. This wasn't a quick read for me. it is very long, but once you get past the first trial it seems to move more quickly. I really liked the characters.
