My Reviews
Poorly written, all over the place, trying too hard and missing the mark. The dad thing at the end? Wtf?
2.5 is my rating. Compared to some of the previous books itâ??s definitely better, however I had higher expectations because domestics dramas are my cup of tea. So maybe thatâ??s not fair nor unbiased of meâ?¦ for a book that takes itself seriously, it fell flat. It was like two different books mashed into one. Instead of exploring deeper the two main characters personalities and marriage, they remained 2d for me and instead the writer brought in all these side stories and tried to weave them together with a messy outcome. There was side talk of Malcolmâ??s dad being scummy but didnâ??t explore how losing his father young impacted his relationship to himself or external environment. And the thing with Rodney? WTH? Why is this now a ponzy scheme mystery? And they were gonna Bonnie and Clyde it all after she leaves him for four months and cheated on him? It honestly felt like the author got bored with her own story half way through and decided to write something else. The beginning just was boring and I was skimming and truly did not like either of the main characters. It was hard to route for either of them. If I didnâ??t have to read this for book club I probably wouldnâ??t have finished it. So I wanted to rate it lower but I can honestly say the writing was better than the others from a few months ago, so only by comparison to the prior did it get a higher score.

Overall 3.85. Fun read at first and good subject matter but I’d like the author to give it another go at it and tighten up the writing and maybe actually make it more deep (to quote Riley) and exploring three main characters vs adding new ppl and keeping it surface with their “faults.” (Addiction, ocd like tendency, narcissist)). But I guess that wouid be a totally dif book and I need to take this as a fluffy rom com which is why it’s a 3.85 despite disliking the last 100 pages.
