My Reviews

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows

Informative, Fun, Interesting
What was WWII like for ordinary folks on an occupied little island in the English Channel?

I'm in the middle of reading this book and find it delightful. I love the writing and I love feeling as if I am living the story along with the characters.

Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith

Dark, Adventurous, Informative
Murders are not supposed to be possible in the 1950's Soviet Russia. That would be a disgrace. But a serial killer is out there and looking for him is a bigger crime against the state than ignoring

This novel is a gripping, page turner. You may figure a few things out before the end, but I guarantee there will still be surprises.

Some members of our group found it too intense/powerful to finish. Those who did found it compelling and insightful. It led to a lively discussion

Most members liked it quite a lot

Most members liked it for the suspense and drama. A few thought it lagged in places and that the ending sewed everything up too quickly as if the author felt rushed to finish. At least one member hated this book because she thought several key plot points were implausible. All the other 14 or so who were present liked it to varying degrees.
