Before the Coffee Gets Cold: A Novel by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Beautiful, Boring, Optimistic
I felt like it didn’t flow very well, and I was very bored until I realized it was four stories and it got a little better then. I saw that it was originally written as a play and I think it would have been better that way. I think a lot of the beauty was probably lost in translation from Japanese to English; there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary descriptions like with the clothes characters wore and their gestures. The overall message was nice but I probably would not recommend it to anyone, it just didn’t resonate with me.
