Even though this I s a true story. It did not have to be written in the style of smut. I did not enjoy even one chapter of this book. It read as a very depressing ugly story. Yes, it might have been a reality of time. The style it was written in is disgusting. If it hadn’t been a selection for a book club that I belong to . I never would have finished it. And, I always finish a novel once I start it.

This was a good quick read. I am also currently reading The gentleman in Moscow. The two stories take place at the same period of time . In the same region of our world . The only woman story tells a story of awareness and active duty of helping the people of war . The Gentleman tells of a story of a privileged man playing the victim. A total diabolical pendulum of the different aspects of people during wartime. I look forward to the discussion about the repression of women during that time .

I very much enjoyed a story that included world history, family, racism, change. All throughout told how the power of music can change a life .

A story of how difficult lives can be changed by just one person .

Not sure how this politically charged novel caught my interest .
