My Reviews
The biggest “Wonder” about this book is how the author, Lesley Kagen, has been able to turn a story depicting a grisly murder mystery into what I would consider a light, and at times funny, beach read. A quirky cast of small town misfits, led by Gibby , who is NQR (not quite right) after sustaining brain damage in an auto accident , set out to solve the crime. This book is a quick and easy read that still provides interesting discussion opportunities for a book club. I would suggest it for a summer selection.
Still Alice moved me to tears as I watched Alice Howland, a brilliant cognitive psychology professor at Harvard, try to hold on to her sense of self as her mind rapidly declines due to early onset Alzheimer’s disease. The book’s vivid depiction of the surreal life forced upon Alzheimer’s victims and their caregivers will definitely help promote Alzheimer’s awareness.
This fictional account depicting life on the Island of Guernsey during Nazi occupation is insightful and touching. Written as a series of correspondence between story characters it is an easy ready that can be tucked in your bag as a beach read.
Brunonia Barry has created a story that is as intricate and textured as Ipswich lace. Each chapter moves you along a beautifully woven path. Unpredictable—You will not be able to put this book down!
