My Reviews
Great discussion book for any book club! Lots of things to consider and ponder. Highly recommended.
I did not read the first two books of the Camel Club series by David Baldacci. Online reviews said that it was not necessary and I agree. I felt that all characters were very well developed. This was not my type of genre and it took awhile to get excited about the story line. However, once I was about 150 pages into it, I was finally interested. There is suspense, action, and twists and the last 100 pages were great!
I think this book will bring much discussion to a book club. You really feel for the character, Mary Todd Lincoln. She is a woman ahead of her time who had to deal with great loss in her lifetime. Grief is a heavy burden to carry alone. I am happy to know Mary's story as told by Janis Cooke Newman.
Many characters are thrown at you within the first 30 pages, but you become immediately interested to know how they're all connected. Even non-belivers in ghost stories will enjoy this read. It will bring a great discussion to any book club!
I love when I can read a book and learn something from it. Although the story itself is historical fiction, the factual information regarding the Vel d'Hiv roundup is a disturbing truth in French history. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Sarah and wanted more. Julia's story didn't grab my interest as much. A great read and a quick read!
Russian, Chinese, English – so many complex characters that battle suffering but also battle with love. Much research was done by the author to create this compelling historical fiction piece. I didn’t want to put it down and I hope there is a sequel so we can read more about Lydia and Chang and the adventures their love will bring.
After reading The Hunger Games, I didn't think there could be a better book. Boy was I wrong! Catching Fire is even better! The author drops a bombshell at the end of each chapter, so you just have to keep reading. After awhile I had to cover up the last sentence of each chapter because I knew my eyes would drift that way to see what tragedy would strike next. What a great read!
It's The Giver meets the short story The Lottery. Very disturbing plot, but WOW what a great read!
A very quick and easy read. Sad story line, but I found myself laughing at parts as well. A great read for a book club. Lots to discuss. Take time away from your normal genre and pick up Still Alice. It will be worth your time.
This will make for a fantastic Book Club discussion. Heartbreaking and thought provoking. What would you have done in this situation?
