My Reviews
Only a few girls were able to finish this book in our book club. Not because of the story, we were captivated by the reality of Greg Mortensen's experiences...but we felt the writing varied from Biographical to novel-like. We would have preferred more of a "novel" than a biography. Just not our particular taste this time around!
We all A) finished it, B) thought it was pertinent and applicable to today's time! We loved recapping some of her stories and talking about her anecdotes and occurences through the book. Very fun and recommend for all bookclubs! We can't wait to read her other books.
Had great conversation, loved the writing, was very impressed with Elyn Saks and her ability to convey an accurate depiction of someone with mental illness.
Our bookclub is ok w/ nonfiction if it reads more like a novel. This book would digress a lot and become too historical. We liked the book, but felt like this was a great book for a lit or religion class in a university setting. Only one out of our group could finish!
We loved this book, we all compared to the written/British version of Brothers & Sisters. Wasn't as sad/gloomy as we thought/feared it would be. We all grew attached to the sisters & their stories. We wanted a part 2!
We thought it was a great book ahead of its times, and we all enjoyed it despite the length. Made us curious to see the movie too!
