Angela's Ashes: A Memoir by Frank McCourt

Insightful, Interesting, Beautiful
an insight into impoverished bleak lives that should have no hope yet prevail over incredible odds

One can't help but be pulled into Frank McCourts life. His words open up a vivid world of shame and poverty that is made bareable by a tenacious mother who loved her children fiercly. She taught her children to hold their heads high in even the darkest of moments and never, ever allow themselves to be beaten down emotionally or physically.

Adventurous, Dramatic, Interesting
The story is ripe for many types of discussion.

I found the story not only romantic in the "love story" but so much romance in the adventure Jacob Jankowski's life centered around. This was an incredibly visual story for me. I felt as though I had literally been pulled into Jacobs life and lived each moment with him.

Sara Gruen has woven a wonderful tale that begs our imaginations to consider what it was like in the early 30's. As good a classic as The Great Gatsby and Grapes of Wrath.
