My Reviews
Everyone in our book club loved reading this book. The characters are wonderful and we enjoyed being immersed in the circus world. Plus, it has a great ending!!!
Our club loved this book. Not only did we find the book very entertaining but it also brought up stories from our own lives that had us laughing all night! This is not a difficult book to read, it keeps your attention, and it nicely slips in some important life lessons. We highly recommend it.
This book lends itself to excellent discussions on following your dreams and the importance of noticing the beauty in every day life. It was a nice break from all the bad news that we are hit with daily. The Alchemist is a nice reminder to keep faith that every day brings something new and good.
Overall, our book club enjoyed The Red Tent. Based on the biblical story of Dinah, it makes the characters feel more real and reminds you that they really were normal people. It also paints an interesting picture of the time in which the story takes place and the challenges women faced. We did have a few problems with some of the liberties taken with the Bible story however, and felt that certain parts could have been left out without hurting the story.
Everyone in our club loved this book. Even though there is real tragedy, this book is very uplifting and shows the positive side of human nature.
Everyone in our group loved this book. I think the best word to describe it is fascinating. Even though there are terrible times and bad things that happen, the children's perseverance is amazing. A great book to read and discuss!
Our club was looking for a short little book to read for Christmas - this one is short but most of our members had trouble with character's attitudes and the silly decisions they make that just create more problems. We did enjoy the ending though, so the book did leave us with something positive.
Everyone in our club thoroughly enjoyed this book! It's fast paced with wonderful characters. It made us all want to go visit Guernsey! :-)
Our club enjoyed this book because it was about a subject we really don't know much about but are interested in. Some members thought the book was a little slow in the middle and others weren't thrilled with the end (obvious set up for a sequal), but overall we found this version of a world of bad angels both interesting and though provoking.
Our club found this book very inspiring. Although there are parts that are difficult to read and many found it scary how easy someone can slip into a life of addiction, the way he pulls through and ultimately lives his life is awesome.
Not everyone in our club finished the book (there is a very slow part in the middle of the book), but those who did found it to be very inspiring. It offers a great way to think of life's challenges and a very human way of how we can personally have a relationship with God.
Our book club enjoyed this book but when we got together to discuss it, one of our friends ended up going to the emergency room so we went there instead. We may not have been able to discuss the book but we did get to live it.
Our club found this book very interesting and different from most of the books we've read.
Everyone in our club found this book to be inspirational and uplifting. By focusing on finding the little blessings around us every day, you can truly see the good that sometimes seems lost in the world.
