My Reviews
Our club enjoys mixing it up. So we decided to not only read the book but also sample some of the recipes.
Each member was to bring one of the recipes from the book to our meeting. (Several of us brought two.) YUMMY!!!
We had a great meeting enjoying the food and also dicussing the book. Pat's stories are light and endearing.
Our group enjoyed discussing the author as much as the book! Our lead reviewer really did her homework on the author which gave us an additional insight to the book and several topics to discuss as well.
We all enjoyed the book and felt that it exposed some incite into the women of Afghanistan. However, we were baffled by the author's behavior and concerned about her motives for writing the book and the repercussionsthat resulted.
I enjoyed the way the book both began with Oscar's obituary and ended with an article about his biographies. Also, the way the author used the two biographers throughout the story initiating the cause for the heroines to come together for a common cause and grow beyond their egos and differences.
The book was interesting from the beginning and although it did get confusing and sometimes seemed a little slow it was probably more due to my limited knowledge of that region then the content. Inspiring story and still believable since the author was allowed to show Greg's "warts" too!
