My Reviews

Insightful, Interesting, Dramatic
Enjoyed the last few chapters when it came to a resolution.

Found the first chapters tedious, especially regarding the goose hunt. I understood it was setting the storyline for Jerimiah's miracles, but did like the premise. The last chapters were very compelling and made the book an interesting read.

Dramatic, Interesting, Dark
Compelling story of young mute boy and his solitary adventures with his beloved dogs as he struggles with family tragedy.

Initially the story has a lengthy introduction, setting the foundation for the dramatic Sawtelle family tale. As it progresses it becomes more compelling with the inclusion of each character as they relate to Edgar. The parallel story of the dog breeding family business adds a multifaceted look to the complete picture. Mr. Wroblewski is a master at describing the picturesque rural scenes leaving the reader with the impression of being on Edgar's solitary journey of escape. However, it is a slow journey in its pace and one can feel overwhelmed with the length of the book. A good part of the middle of the book, particularly the part as it relates to Edgar's uncle ingratiating himself back into the family business, is tedious. With the last hundred pages, the story begins to fully develop and comes to somewhat of a predictable but still enthralling conclusion.
