My Reviews

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

Interesting, Dramatic, Informative
Salcious rendition of Anne Boleyn's ill-fated reign as King Henry VIII's wife

Everyone loved this book. There was so much meat for discussions. Meetings always ran over. Later we watched the movie, and of course preferred the book.

The Poisonwood Bible: A Novel by Barbara Kingsolver

Informative, Adventurous, Insightful
Family saga set in the harsh African Congo

This book was a great selection. Several of our club members are related so anything with familial relationships always strikes a chord. After weeks of animated meetings, our discussions did seem to stall towards the end of the novel. We agreed it's fantastic, but may have exceed its natural ending.

Also the new material at the back of the book was enjoyable.

Informative, Dramatic, Insightful
Well rendered depiction of the Salem Witch Trials

Some of us LOVED this book, and the rest still thought is was very good. We read a lot of Historical Fiction, and this is the best depiction of the Trials we felt since THe Crucible. It has a lot to discuss. As the treatment of the prisoner's and the scantness of the evidence used to try the victims is shocking from a historical and legal perspective (we have a lawyer).
