My Reviews
I was initialy drawn in by the prologue. The scene and characters were crystal clear. The account of the Mondavi family and the establishment of its wine-making dynasty is remarkable. The author, Julia Flynn Siler, had taken 500 hours of interviews and the examination of tens of thousands of pages of documents to produce a work that is as full of love, jealousy, infidelity and shattered friendships as any soap opera. Throughout the read you are introduced to decades of business success and failure, power struggles and the telling of the rich history of the NAPA Valley wine making kingdoms. You will definately feel the urge to sip a famous California wine as you read about its creation. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in family drama and would like an understanding of how american business models work.
Fascinating true confession of a mob hitman. Insightful account of the rise of Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamster's union. Major historical events are revealed and linked to the the crime families of the United States. Where is Jimmy Hoffa? You will have to read the book to find out! All of this told as a death bed confession to a former prosecutor. A fascinating read and hard to put down!
Another Dan Brown fun romp through Washngton DC and freemasonry.
Interesting book
Some have said that they find the narrative hard to follow. I did not find that. In fact, I thought the story was brilliantly devised. Bravo!
Amazing detail of such a building feat woven with a grisley tale of murder. Excellent read for men and women!
I am a very big fan of epic fantasy and this book fits the bill. It is a story that requires you to pay attention, take notes if you must, since it introduces characters and settings that build a unique world where angels, demons, jinn, humans and others populate a dark gothic world which is destined to doom unless a savior comes forth. The main character is a girl named Angela, a bloodhead, tagged by the color of her hair to be of special interest to many since this hair color marks those destined to be the possible Messiah. The author weaves an interesting tale of psychology and religious mythology. Her vivid writing style has created strong chracters and settings, and as the first book of three in the series, is heavy on information. This is a book where sometimes the good guys are the bad guys and vice versa, leaving you with many a ha! moments. The climactic ending leaves one waiting for book two to continue the saga. I would highly recommend this book for true readers who are not daunted by shifting points of view and several plot lines. They all add up in the end and hats off to Ms. Benulis for presenting something unique in this genre. Please note that although ARCHON is listed as young adult/crossover,there are episodes of graphic violence. I would recommend this read to those age 15+
