Not enough insight into how a serial killer's family is different from every other dysfunctional family
This book starts out slow, then takes off. Exciting thriller to begin an awsome trilogy.
Violent but shows how the human spirit overcomes even the most horrible experiences
Great characters, great setting, just a perfect summer feel good book!!
Loved this book. A truly interesting tale, and having lived long enough, I did not find it far fetched at all.
The writer has a wonderful style, and look forward to reading more from him
Hard to put this book down! Anyone who has had children can relate to the author's use of a child's perspective. Mom is a great mom too, and a warning to us all, to prepare our children for those people who may be quite evil.
The setting is very fascinating, and the story interesting and a good bookclub read. Lots of
hot topics to discuss!!
This is a great read. Unlike Gone With the Wind, it tells the story from the slaves and servants points of view. The characters are all believable because the author does a great job setting up their individual backgrounds.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is about an event I did not know that much about. The way that the man walking between the Twin Tower's on a high wire's act affects so many people is reminscent of 9/11 for sure.
Some of our bookclub thought the multiple stories and characters were confusing. I read the book as separate stories, and since the ending kind of ties things up I wasn't as confused.
I would recommend this book
The book is interesting and believable. The book is about a widowed mother, who is so scared of poverty once again, she makes very dangerous choices. Really in this time period, if a woman had no money of her own, her choices were limited, but still..
Amazing Amy is one complicated little girl!! Just when you think you have her figured out she has something else up her sleeve. But wait, what about that "perfect' husband? He is awfully complicated too. Did he kill his wife, or didn't he. You need to read the whole book to find out.
Fantastic summer read
I was laughing so hard at the beginning of this book, how Bernadette handles the "mean girl" mom's at her daughter's school is hilarious. Then the book takes a strange and unconvincing turn.
I just did not believe that the Bernadette at the beginning of the book, would make the choices the author had her make at the end.
Just dissapointed.
Good story, and a great book for a discussion
If you liked Gone Girl, you will love this book. A quick read, because it is well written and the characters are interesting while not being very likable. A two timing husband gets his due, but who done it??
The novel is a good read, but boy are the characters un-relatable. The only character you have compassion for is the victim of a crime so horrible it makes those involved only appear to be less than human.
The book is a good read for a book club. There is much to be learned about slavery and the author is passionate about telling the story of a group of people who have not had their story told
The jumping between time periods and so many characters and subplots overloads the reader at times though
We did have a great discussion though
This is a dry book about the history of the Romanovs. Only if your group is really into history is this the book for you. The research is obvious painstakingly accurate, but we were all hoping to gain more insight than just facts.
Didnt really want to read another \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"magical\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" Christmas book, and this is not. It is true to life, how life does not go as we planned and we love who we love not who we are supposed to love. Beautiful setting
This book is a must for women book groups. Especially those of us who have or have had children in school. Plus the light shed on domestic abuse is very accurate
Sweet love story
