My Reviews
Profound, mesmerizing, different, and heart-piercing! One of my "top 10" favorite books! I was simply captivated by this story within a story, and the creative use of death as the narrator. I've read nothing remotely like it before or since. Insights into the affect of WWII on civilians in Germany abound from a very original angle.
Excellent story. Filled with fascinating characters and lots of drama. Great for discussion groups. You will learn a lot about people, the plague, and yourself.
Absolutely hilarious and wonderfully written. Doreen Orion is a gifted writer who will make you LOL! Travel across the USA with her family and enjoy her wittiness, martini recipes, husband-isms, and adventures ... or is that mis-adventures?
With a lot of interesting characters, this book will take you on a fascinating ride through history via the New York Public Library and an array of rare manuscripts. You will also hop on a roller coaster search for a mad murderer. It's an enjoyable escape that keeps you guessing until the end!
There are a lot of life lessons in this story, and a lot of material for a good discussion, but the book is too long and often slow to make it fantastic. Still, it is a good book for the committed reader.
This book will invoke many emotions as you travel along with Nina, a nurse who wants to save the world from harm, as she struggles to find the who, what, and why behind finding a naked little boy barely alive inside a suitcase. Through each character, you get a glimpse of the good, the bad, and the ugly found inside humanity. The story is a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs that eventually comes to a stop, but Nina remains behind unable to get off the track.
Anyone who reads this book and isn't riveted from beginning to end needs their head examined.
