My Reviews
Set in the 1700's, this Book chronicles the Adventures of a beauteous 17 year-old orphan in old Town London. In faith, the author's Character scribbles her Memoirs for her belov'd daughter, Belinda, and has sworn to leave Nothing out - and she holds true to this Concept.
Erica Jong researched the era thoroughly and wrote her book in the style of the time. Some people find that difficult, and the first 50 pages can be slow, but perseverance pays off! Once the reader gets past the archaic style of writing, the story really takes off. True to Erica Jong's style, there are some graphic scenes that may offend some, but in my opinion, only added to the story.
I was so swept up in the author's narrative that I thought I would know the secret. I didn't. And I won't spoil it here - you must read it!
For me, the first 75 or so pages were tough. I don't know why, it was just difficult. Once I got past that, I had a good time. It was an unexpected ending, but that's the way I like them!
