My Reviews
I enjoyed the transformation of Doreen during her adventure. Also, I could relate easily to her perspective of her husbands talents. This book helped me be more open to the personality differences and similarities that my husband and I share/don't share. It is important to recognize the "good" in eachother even if we don't understand the motivation or relavance of the others actions.
I think it is very hard to objectively look back at one's childhood. While I can't imagine being the eldest sibling of three with a manic mother and surving, I am even more impressed that not only did all Lola's children survive, they have all acheived "success". Proof that the more one has to overcome the more they actually accomplish. Sometimes it is best to start in last place than the head of the pack.
If you struggled feeling sorry Elizabeth in Eat Pray Love, you will definately enjoy the adventures of Andrew. (Which are most likely not true accounts)This book is not going to transform your life. You will not have an "ah ha" moment. Life is too short. Read something for the fun of it!
I loved this book! Couldn't put it down. Laughed while crying. Absolutley a hoot, but also had very well developed "characters"! What a read. I hightly recommend this book. You are not alone in your family casting! You may even feel a little bit better about your own. And give your mom a break. :) Or yourself for that matter.
