My Reviews
I could hardly put this book down once I started it. It is beautifully written, with wonderful characters who immediately come to life. It is full of activity, excitement, history, and just a great story.
This was an amazingly imaginative book that truly captured feelings of love between a man and woman. You have to totally let go of time restraints in your mind and ride with the creative predicament the main character finds himself in-- the inability to control what time zone he is in. But love and loyalty prevail in the midst of sadness. I loved it!
The plot within the plot (the seige of Leningrad) was amazingly fascinating, in an "OH NO" kind of way. It was fascinating to read and to imagine anyone going through it. It tied beautifully with the primary story of the family of the survivor.
After seeing this book highly recommended, I could hardly wait to read it. It begins very dramatically and interestingly with an explosion in a museum and the effects on the survivors, but as the story progresses, it becomes overly graphic with descriptions of drug use and its effect, adolescent drinking, abusive parents, and dysfunctional families. The basic story was quite good but made unenjoyable with so much of the dark side of life. I wouldn\'t waste my time on it.
