My Reviews
This is a classic American novel. Probably an important and necessary read for an American Literature student, not so much for a book club. The book is long and there may be a number words that need looking up. There is little action and not really a satisfactory ending. The main characters are sympathetic yet we do not really understand their motivation. For a book club that reads more current books - this one is a definite variation. The discussion requires research.
I had a hard time getting started - but once in - I could not put it down. I thought it was a unique and fresh perspective on the time period between the two wars. The characters are interesting and well flushed out. There are a few loose ends - but I enjoyed the read and look forward to reading another book by the same author.
I do not reccomend reading this book. It was of slight interest because of the geographic place in which it is set - but it is either too disturbing or too boring as it goes from sordid sexual exploits to the complicated and self-abosorbing world of Swedish High Finance.
