My Reviews
This book was not necessarily an easy read because of the emphasis on philosophy but I found it very insightful. This is a character driven book and lacks plot movement. Many in our book club didn't like it for that reason but I found it quietly inspiring. The characters were well-drawn and unforgettable!
People have said that we have read about this subject before - why bring it up again. But I think that this book sheds new insights into the world of people who work inside the homes of others especially during this time period. Written with amazing sensitivity, The Help reveals a world that we hope is gone but probably still exists in some corners of the world.
I had a hard time with the first part but I pushed on and was rewarded with an insightful and tender examination of the aftermath of a horrific situation. The voice of the main character was brilliant with its simplicity and curiosity.
