My Reviews
The introduction of characters from Guensey Island peaked both my interest and my sense of humor. Our protagonist is creative and open to the world around her. Her adventure is ours. The story develops through letters revealing an amazing story of seclusion during the war. You too, will have some sense of what it woud be like to be cut off from the world around you, and surrounded by the enemy.
There were so many insights in this story, that I wanted it to continue. A teenage son and his father build a precarious relationship in the 1940's. Each is almost able to read the others mind, the others thoughts, and interpret the others body language. Yet, they don't really know one another at all. Father has a secret life that he is unable to discuss with his son, but it is honorable, or is it! The son has secret thoughts that he can't share with his father, but they are normal, or are they? This relationship kept me engrossed page after page.
We see the protagonist as an aging man, who reviews his past and his present with remarkable poignancy. A great read, and a thought provoking storyline.
It unanimous, Every one in our corporate book club agreed they enjoyed this story. Collins has done a great job keeping the reader intrigued and engaged. The "what's next" element kept me and my bookclub reading until the end, and left us wanting more. Not the most challenging book, but definately entertaining! Thank you
