My Reviews
Quick read, fair character development, surprise story ending. A story of the community of women, which we believe was stronger and more tangible in years gone by, though it is nice to think we may still have that web of support and understanding in this day and age. We can be our own Persian Pickle club.
It was a good book club book - the style of writing was a little ponderous - was it because the writer is a poet by nature? Great descriptions of the family heritage and nature of each culture -the Irish and the Czech families... the ditty: A son is a son until he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all of her life is very poignant and relevant to many of us...
Very interesting information on the senses, with smell probably being the most nebulous but provocative...reads like a text book, though, so be aware it is not a story.
A great read - interesting set up - letters back and forth. Very positive remarks from all who read the book - we all enjoyed it very much.
Interesting facts, supported by photos, somewhat corny story line, but it was a quick read and certainly something to think about as far as the evidence provided in the story.
Over all, members loved this book - it was a great book for discussion - covered emotions, history, cause and effect, a whole range of topics. Very developed characters.
Yawn. That is all I can say. Who cares.
Hard to enjoy - disjointed - I get the point of the book but did not enjoy the style in which it was written.
An aha moment - I am capable of making a change to help someone else in some way - change begins with me.
Riveting, hard to believe how people can live like this and overcome incredible disadvantage.
Hard to believe some children have to raise themselves - situations that could have been prevented, zany goings on, mental illness and ahlcohl abuse for a disfunctional family make - and yet 3 out of the 4 children were able to escape their circumstances and "succeed" as adults.
Whoopfftah - 3 page character list, very long, too many characters, difficult to stay on task. It COULD be a good book but it was too difficult to have to wade through. Book on Tape, though, was pleasant drone in the background.
I was probably the only one who liked the book! I liked it for the pure fact I could relate to places mentioned as I had just returned from Madrid and I liked the book for the fact that I purchased it from a bookshop in Madrid! Simple reasons, I liked it for the simple pleasure of reading a novel with a hero that seemed invincible.
Sorry, this is best as a made for PBS movie! Too many people, with not enough character development. Ooops, sorry Agatha.

A person from a foreign country; a foreigner.
A stranger.
This book is aptly named - Claire was both a person from a foreign country/different time/age when she fell through the runestone circle and it seems, a stanger to the time and husband she left behind. There were many comments about this being more of a bodice ripper than a romance, but many of the ideas of time travel, for instance were interesting concepts - perhaps even if not executed in a totally believeable manner - BUT - this is a book of fiction and I believe the purpose is entertainment and it certainly delivers. Thumbs UP for Outlander.
Just arrghhh.
An interesting, well written/translated read. Very informative, gives an insight to a womans role and life in another culture.
