My Reviews
I really love this book. The three main characters are so interesting and the way the author switches between them kept me peeled to the book. There are tender moments, shocking moments and very funny moments. The best book I have read this year!
Well written but too much bad language used. I would have enjoyed it without all the curse words. Book divided into multiple sections. Compelling read because of all the various stories for each of the characters.
The Christmas Bus was a sweet story. Not as interesting as I expected but the characters we varied and made the story fun to read. Not a difficult book and fairly short.
I abosolutely loved this book. There are so many varied characters. I hope they make a movie someday. It covers so many emotions and is thought provoking.
I found this book quite moving although it was difficult to read. The reason it was difficult to read is because I kept remembering it was a true story. Some of the things that happen in this family are unbelievable. The author writes it well and compels you to read to the end.
The way this book is written it really does not lend itself to a book club. It is a self-help, life concepts book that has daily assignments through questions. It addresses many wonderful issues and concepts and is more like a Bible Study. It would be good for that sort of group.
I mostly enjoyed the book. I felt it did drag on in some parts. Once the mom really started telling the story of her past it got better. It was difficult to read about the terrible things she had to endure with her children. Sometimes with her grown daughters I wanted to yell at them for the way they were behaving. Overall it was a decent book.
I expected this book to be a laugh out loud funny book based on the reviews I read. For me and most of my book club we would not describe it that way. It did bring smiles to your face at times but it was also very deep in that it covered many aspects of these womens' lives some very difficult to read about. I did enjoy it overall.
My book club really liked this book. I think we especially liked it because it was from the unique perspective of the person with Alzheimer's. The author did her homework and made the story fun and compelling. You could not help but relate to the characters in the book because of their honest reactions.
This book made a huge impact on me. It opened my eyes to look at people from that area of the world differently and with more compassion and respect. It has caused me to evaluate information I receive regarding the Muslim faith with different eyes - more balanced. It inspired me!
It had all of these. Kept me reading wanting to know the outcome for both sisters.
This book was better than I expected considering the topic. I found many of the explainations of how the cells work difficult yet it prompted me to read more. The story of the Lacks family and their many struggles was unbelievable and heart-breaking at times. I am glad I read this.
I enjoyed the book because it was fast paced and suspenseful. Although there were some far-fetched things that happened overall I liked the book. I looked forward to reading it and had a hard time putting it down. The topic was thought provoking. Our club enjoyed discussing the implications of this type of mediccal research and outcomes.
