My Reviews
This is a book for teens as well as adults. The personification of death is one of the most intriguing narrators I've ever encountered in reading. This is not just a book about Nazi Germany. It explores the universal issues of war, grief, friendship, and family. The unique style and poetic descriptions will haunt the reader for years to come.
We all agreed that this is one of the scariest books we've ever ready. It is a family dealing with a world wide medical crisis. Part of what makes it so scary is that this book is from the family's point of view not the government or science lab. The family's struggle makes it so much more personal.
We were also very fortunate to have the author, Carla Buckley, at our meeting to discuss not only her book but the writing process as well.
