My Reviews
For a memoir, the writing had brief moments of intellectual brilliance; but for the most part the writing within the book did not live up to its potential. I admire Ms Juska's idea of taking charge of her life and her ability to "not let outside influences dictate her decisions." This book had great potential for a fun and adventurous read, but fell just short of interesting. Would I recommend this book to book clubs? Yes with reservations.
I neither liked nor disliked it. It was predictable, but it makes for a good discussion with a group of people. Reads quickly - not intensive nor life-changing.
It was difficult to put down this book - a story of faith, w/realistic human characterizations. The test of faith and the fear of not passing the test is told from a believable standpoint. The book is not an earth-shaking, well-written book; but, I found it inspiring due to the presentation of "too-human feelings" that as Christians we do not want to say out loud. I described this book as romatic because the love of human beings goes beyond the physical.
good read for "relaxation" - don't have to "read" into it :)
Well written - but too dark for my interest. I find that lately books found on the best-seller list are gaining interest along the lines of deep dark topics. Not only is the book depressing, but it has a predictable plot which drags without relief of redemption.
I find that the story behind "TOMS" is interesting to read and told by Blake who has a humanistic life-view. Wow, what a change in reading about starting a business. This book contains plenty of quotes that appeal to everyday living. The book is not "preachy" and is an easy light-hearted read, i.e., not a tome. This book is worth reading for its reminders about life's lessons.
