My Reviews
Very seldom do I find a book that leaves me wanting more. The characters drew me in and I found myself thinking of them throughout the day. "The Kitchen House" enticed me throughout its entire story, it was never tedious or boring. I want to start it over and read it again!
An insightfully written historical fiction about the pains indured during a very dark period of the United States - slavery.
While reading The Next Thing on My List I kept thinking that my daughter of sixteen would enjoy the storyline. After reading it I created my own list.
The complexity of the characters and how their relationships became intertwined added to the depth of this historic fiction. It was as though each individual was an integral part of a puzzle that when pieced and woven together a complete story was told. Highly recommend!
While turning the pages of Beth Hoffman’s “Saving CeeCee Honeycut” I could not help but be drawn back to other novels that I have read about strong, colorful characters who lived in the south. Just as “Steele Magnolias”, “The Secret Lives of Bees” and most recently “The Help” made me laugh and cry, “Saving CeeCee Honeycut” did too. The next time I read it I will be poolside, reading out loud in my best southern accent and drinking a long island ice tea!
Louise Murphy has taken a classic fairy tale and expounded on the characters. I found myself sympathizing with the villains of my youth. Ms. Murphy’s graphic and poignant story telling paralleled the children’s book in a manner that is believable yet dark and haunting. “The True Story of Hansel and Gretel” epics the Holocaust just as it was – horrific with glimmers of kindness and hope.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a blend between modern day and time traveling back to the past. Within it are colorful characters that found a place in my heart allowing me to be their biggest fan and cheering them on during times of chaos and melee. It had a mythical feel to it that would be enjoyed by fans of Harry Potter.
“The Shoemaker’s Wife” is a beautifully written story filled with love, longing, sadness and thoughtfulness. Because I fell in love with the Lazzari’s, my hope is that Adriana Trigiani will write about the next generation.
I am a sucker for a book that makes me cry and "The Time Keeper" did just that. Mitch Albom is a genius at saying a lot with very few words. This is a curl up on the couch and read a story in its entirety in an afternoon kind of book. Captivating, fast paced and thought provoking. Read it. You will not be disappointed.
Great book! "The Light Bewteen Oceans" has the perfect amount of characters, twists and turns and highs and lows..
Prior to picking up "Rules" I read a review that stated that this reader's original rating would have been a four, but after going back and rereading the prelude they changed their mind and gave it a five. This holds true for me too. Towles wrote a great story with unexpected twists, ah ha moments and ironies. My thought - Often times a photo tells a thousand words....but they are always open for interpretation.
Often when I read a book I imagine how it would be portrayed as a movie. While reading "Wish You Well" I could not help but feel that it would never make it to the big screen, but could be found on the Hallmark Channel. It is a sweet book, reminiscent of The Little House on the Prairie series; and had a very different feel from the other David Baldacci books I have read.
