My Reviews
This book gave us plenty to talk about, from social conflicts to family dynamics and racial issues. 90 minutes went by before we even realized it!
When we discussed this book, we found ourselves talking about everything from a father's role in parenting to when kids are old enough to make their own decisions, and even tackling a little bit of the age-old working mom vs. stay-at-home mom topic. It was a fabulous discussion that left no one out.
The author is willing to spend 30 minutes talking with book clubs via phone. We took advantage of this to learn a little more about how she comes up with story lines and even what her next book will be about.
We selected this book because we live just a few miles from Jarrettsville, MD. We couldn't have been happier with it... Jarrettsville is an amazing story, ripped from history. The author does an excellent job of making you really feel what a hot, sticky Maryland summer feels like. Her character development is superb. The story jumps off the page. I especially loved the notes in the back of the book detailing the actual newspaper articles and historical timelines.
