My Reviews
My neighbor lent me this book earlier this year and I loved reading about Greg's passion and accomplishments.
Great story that really kept me engrossed. Beautiful descriptive imagery, that made me kinda want to go to Spain. Can't wait for the next book which comes out soon.
Inspiring guy, with great life stories.
I read the book twice before our club meeting, because some parts were confusing for me and I had to be able to understand them before we could talk about it. I hate reading about animal pain and sadness, and this book is full of it. Kleenex book. Beautiful geographical imagery. Great character development. Compelling gripping story. Not every story has a happy ending...warning. This book prompted the most heated discussions so far for our club. Lots of different perspectives and opinions were flying. Some people stopped reading it, and some didn't finish it because it was too long.
I liked the book. It taught me a lot about East Indian culture. I enjoyed the movie as well.
Can see why it won the Pulitzer. Not for those who are offended by profanity and sexual vulgarity. Teaches a lot about life and history of the Dominican Republic. Accurate interesting glimpse of young urban immigrants. Amazing blending of Sci Fi lore and Spanglish. Footnotes are sometimes more interesting than the story! Humorous throughout, even in dreadful situations.
I enjoyed all the insights into the characters' thoughts. Very interesting characters. Unpredictable surprise occurred for me. Impressive translation from the French.
Awesome book. Was bummed when it was over. Went out and read the 2nd book "The Likeness" right away. It's just as good.
Great read, loved both stories within. Made me want to research further. Info in book matches well with real stories published about FLDS/Colorado City. This situation really makes me mad!
Enjoyable read, held my attention. All of the changing identities can be confusing.
great read, everyone in our club loved it. great characters, wonderful voices. ashamed at that part of our history, and the fact that it still continues in some places. we talked a lot about our own lingering prejudices and those of society in general.
quick easy read, a tad predictable sometimes. wished she delved more into what happened with the attorney's father.
the sexual scenes went a little too far for my taste. i didn't have a problem with the gay sex, but with the descriptiveness of the more non-hygienic parts the hetero's engaged in. TMI. guess you'd have to read it to see if you agree or not. I liked Asa the best. Glad they weren't my parents.
I liked Tassie, up until she got into the coffin. I got her humor. The author knows how to write and uses metaphors beautifully. Very descriptive. That is the reason why I checked "like" instead of "dislike". No real plot, not a good ending.
I was really impressed by her Christian faith, especially for her age and what she went through on her journey. Living in NM makes the book more interesting too.
Very entertaining book. Doesn't matter if it is well-written or not. Some books are just for fun. I can see the appeal. Sparked some great and varied discussions.
Sad in many parts, but still worth the read. Compared to The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, this is a super happy book. For me, I would cry for maybe half a page then move on. It wasn't lingering sadness. Nice happy ending. Most of the ladies in our group really liked it. Funny too. Great for dog lovers.
I wished it would have kept my attention longer. It was a struggle to make it through to the end. If I didn't have time at the airport or on a plane, I may not have finished it. It was very well written. Charity reminds me too much of my MIL - not a good thing.
I chose this book because the reviews were really good, and it was positive (hard to find many of these that are written at an adult level). I got a lot out of it, but several in my club either didn't read it or found it very difficult or frustrating, depending on their own experiences with brain injury or the medical industry as a whole. You will learn a lot about those with these types of injury though.
Enjoyable read. Based in my hometown area, so it was fun reading about all the streets and restaurants and stuff. Loved the information on the ankle bracelet. Well-researched and kept my attention all the time. Was impossible not to picture Matthew McConaughey while I was reading it though.
