My Reviews
Although some in the group thought the author failed to fully develop the main characters, most thought it was a delightful and fun read. This is a gentle accounting of eclectic people all sharing an apartment house in Scotland.
A fascinating read about Percy Fawcett, a formidable adventurer. David Grann writes with candor and enthusiasm and draws the reader in from the first page. Highly recommended by all the book club members.
This book is beautifully written and a fascinating read. Most of the group rated it as one of the best we have read. Allow the details of the book are fiction, the author draws the reader into the events described and makes them come alive. Well worth reading.
Most of the group found the beginning chapters tedious and had to push through to get deeper into the story. and some members found the characters not as well deveoped as they would prefer. However, the story of Italy during WWII was dramatic and captivating, so considered this book a worthwhile read.
Although this book generated interesting discussions most of the group was disappointed in the novel. The author used clever and humorous descriptions sprinkled throughout which certainly added to our enjoyment but some of the situations seemed too predictable and somewhat unrealistic. We enjoyed reading it but it was not one of our favorites.
This is first romance novel our group has read. The author joined our monthly gathering and shared with us how she got started as a writer and the ins and outs of the publishing industry. Everyone enjoyed reading this delightful book and the ensuing discussion was intersting and enlightening.
Carl Hiaasen funny and outrageous book pokes fun at politics in Miami and the state of florida aw well as the shallow and talentless entertainers so often in the news. I laughed out loud. Some of our group found the writing too elementary but it is a fun read, a change of pace from most book club selections.
althought most of the book club liked this selection those of us from the south found the book unrealistic and the main character manipulative. the characters the author creative were interesting and engaging but some members felt she had written a book with the intent of making a movie.
Our book club loved this book, found it both beautifully written and informative. The author brings to light events in France during WWII that few peolple know about. Heartbreaking and poinant.
Fun read especially since it takes place in south Florida were are book club is located. Enjoyed but it had some weak points but overall I think most book clubs would enjoy it.
Well written and informative. Explores how neighborhoods in America have changed in the past 50 years. On the whole my group loved the book, generated an interesting discussion.
Group found this book interesting and it generated a lot of discussion, however some members found some passages tedious. overall, we enjoyed reading it.
the author caring handles the heartbreak of memory loss and the effect it has on family. she gives an insightful account of the siege of Leningrad which many of us knew very little.
wonderful book, covering an interesting yet controversial topic, our book club loved it. everyone should read this book!
If you have read the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson this book is the inside story of who Stieg really was. It is a love story about Eva and Stieg that lasted 32 years until his umtimely death in 2004. The writing style is ho-hum but the profile of Stieg and of Sweden are interesting
good read!
Perceptive and empahetic this novel captures the human struggles and looks at the question - how do others see us?
A remarkable book which details events of the extraordinary men that shaped our country. Not an easy read but informative and inspiring.
we read this along with The Paris Wife to obtain a full understanding of Heminways life in the 1920's and the life in Paris. Learned a lot but found Hemingway's book a bit plodding and some of our readers did not like it at all. However we did like The Paris Wife.
Our club loved this book. interesting to read again after so many years, even better the second time around. Highly recommend!
although the author provided many interesting facets of Nell Harper Lee, the book was too long and sometimes tedious in the details. Our club read it as a companion book to "To Kill A Mockingbird" and was an interesting addition to our discussion.
although most of our book club members liked it, this book was tedious in its details particularly with the court room scenes. Connelly is a favorite with many readers of crime fiction but i dont think this is his best book.
A very moving account of a Harvard Professor that is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Moving and informative.
Interesting read but at times the plot was confusing; too long!
Wonderfully written, a pleasure to read.
Fun read about the life and career of Dorothy Parker and a wonderful history of New York City.
A breakthrough non-fiction novel. Capote used a new and inventive process in telling this gruesome tale of murder. even though we new the outcome the writing draws in and holds your attention to the very last page.
Interesting gained info on Germany in the pre-war years, but a bit tedious at times. Generated lots of discussion in my book club, worth readng
Beautiful Language but parts written in the southern vernacular were challenging for some members. brilliant example of America literature.
Everyone in my book club loved this book. Not an easy read, but very informative. In today\\\'s turbulent atmosphere in the middle east and Africa this is a must read.
Good read - book club members enjoyed it.
interesting read but forgettable. the group had very mixed reactions to it, some thought it had great religious meaning others thought it was nice but pointless
Although the group enjoyed the book and learned a lot but felt the characters were not well developed.
Lively discussion by the group especially about prison conditions in the US. But some of the group felt the character development was lacking.
overall the group liked the book but found it repetitive and somewhat disjointed in its message. would not recommend it. Message was not new, just a rehash of other ideas.
Wonderfully written, information and engaging, filled in many details of our history either unknown or forgotten, brought to light the important and essential role women played in the founding of the USA.
Fantastic book, well written, insightful, my group loved it. Highly recommended as a book club selection.
My book club loved it; well written, wonderful characters, the author made the pages come alive. The narrative was very well written, lovely book.
