My Reviews
I was one of the few who liked this in our group. I rarely read this genre but found I read it in 3 days, it must have grabbed something in me. Some will like it, some won't.
I was looking for more of a 'story' in this book, and instead got more 'pieces' of what happened there, like glimpses past in memory. Some of the book capitalizes on other pieces that related to the zoo, but were still more side stories than an actual part of the lives of the main people. But with all that, I'm glad that I've read it.
A literary telling of a crossing to Oregon, a crossing of hearts. Though the old 'woman remarries and then finds her soul-mate' was a bit boring for me, the language of the book was beautiful, painted scenes that you breathed in and the journey was thoughtfully told. This was actually based on the notes taken by one of the girls in the book as she crossed to Oregon who was an ancestor of the author.
