My Reviews
This is a remarkable book that brings to life the great migration within our own country. The author follows three individuals in their move across country to find a better life within our borders from 1910-1970. This is a part of our American history not studied in the public school systems.
The group as a whole liked the book and found the history of NYC very interesting but were very disappointed that the 20th century was left out of the story. Several of the members commented on wanting to know more about the Celtic mystics and early religion in Ireland. Almost everyone felt that the book did go on forever - in other words it could have been shorter, but we wondered if this was something that Hamill was actually working on when 9-11 occured and that was why it was tied up like it was and left out so much of the interesting history of the 1900s in NYC.
These characters come to life in this interesting historical novel set in the American South prior to the Civil War.
I really did not see what people found so addictive about this book - there isn\\\\\\\'t a single character to admire or like or cheer for in the entire thing. And with all the hype it\\\\\\\'s gotten I must be the only person in the entire country who feels this way.
This book has been overexposed - and really doesn't deserve the hype that it received.
This is the first Trigiani book I've read and I will definitely read more of her works. I loved her characters and the story line.
This book is well written but could have been edited down to a wonderful story under 400 pages easily! It is overwhelming for most bookclubs and moves so slowly most readers get bored halfway through.
This book was a quick read and generated a lot of discussion in both groups that read it. Very interesting premise and I enjoyed the characters. I will definitely read her work again.
