My Reviews
I really enjoyed this book written in letters. I learned a lot about an island I didn't know existed let alone it's place in history!
This book, written in letters, emails, and documents was a fun read. I would recommend it if you are looking for something totally different.
This book told a story of the Japanese Internment, which I was unaware of. That made it interesting. It is also a love story and I am a sucker for a nice read.
The data presented in this book is amazing! It is amazing that up to 82,000 people shared a single community and worked in secret and the story never leaked out! I would have liked to heard more about how life was after the years working in a community playing with uranium! The book was interesting, although the actual writing was not flawless. Worth reading just for the information!
As a book club we had mixed reviews on this book as far as whether the reader really liked the book. Most of the people who were not crazy about it thought it was too challenging of a read. We all agreed, however, that the author is brilliant and the book well written. The quotes throughout the book are Epic!
This book takes the reader into 4 very different but realistic fictional relationships and mixes it with the factual story of the deBeers ad campaign for the diamond. I found it informative and pretty amazing how advertising can change our opinion to that extent! If that wasn't enough, the author also eventually intertwines all of the stories. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This author writes well and she weaves a great story. You really feel like you are right alongside the characters in the 1920's and the 1950's! An enjoyable story and learning about the Perfume business makes this a great read!
This book is so awesome that it is a shame that since it is assigned as a high school book, many adults do not read it. This opportunity given by the announcement and release of the prequel is a gift given to the American Reader! Harper Lee is a gifted writer who was way ahead of her time. Do yourself a favor and read this at your first opportunity.
I really enjoyed this book. It had the feel of a quick fun read but packed a lot of interesting relationship dynamic and twists and turns. The audio was fantastically done!
Although I learned something and enjoyed reading this book it took a very long time to get to the point. A good editor could probably get rid of 1/4 of the book bringing it down to a more reasonable number of pages.
This book was fabulous. Each page was an adventure and I didn't get bored once. That is great for me. I learned a lot and have great respect for people who lived thru this time in France. Great, great job Kristin Hannah. Read this book. Today!
I am not one to choose nonfiction but this book was like reading a historical novel. I felt like I was being introduced personally to so many of history's most famous first ladies with a glimpse of the presidents and their marriages. Starting with the Roosevelt's and continuing thru the Truman's, the Johnson's, the Kennedy's and the Nixon's, this book gave me a great appreciation for the complexity of running the White House and a great appreciation for the job of the first lady. J.B. west was quite a person!
I enjoy reading stories about family. The personalities, relationships, and behaviors intrigue me. This book was about families. Not all was good and everyone didn't make the best choices but it was interesting to see how differently the various characters survived the same basic life structure. I truly enjoyed the story!
The book is a great book club book as there are quite a few personalities to unravel and issues to discuss. At one point in reading, I was "Oh My!"
I can't say I didn't enjoy this book. It kept me reading and got better as it went on. I was surprised with the "whodunit" but this book is more of a good easy read if you like a love story/mystery. I didn't feel the book had enough weight or discussion-ability to be considered a book club book.
This is a quick read basically about a woman (representing the many women) who sneaked in to fight in the civil war. Fascinating that this happened but the book wasn't overly compelling.
This story was interesting about several people and how their lives intersect as years go by. Although I enjoyed the story I didn't find much to discuss here.
If you like a Young Adult book, this book about the tatooing of your life story on your skin for all to see is intersting, although it is a bit gross. What if our skin was harvested after death and put into a book for all ancestors to save our legacy. This book offers much chance for discussion. What do you want to leave as your legacy? What if people could tell everything about you just by looking at your skin? Personal privacy.
I found this book a fun and cute read but not really a book club book.
I thought this story approached both from the 1940s and 2018, was a great mystery about art and a story about it's creation. The story held my interest every minute and had a great ending that answered all the questions you may have had. I've read several books by Diane Chamberlain now and love every one of them!
