I have swung from finding it long winded to being enteraining.

The story meanders like a conversation, losing the plot in some places, but then returning to it. Some times characters seem almost forgotten, and the desciption of the girl is most odd. There are parts where the scientific description of the trees takes precedence over the story. Still an OK read, great for by the pool, relaxing in the sun.
