Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini

Book Club Recommended
Adventurous, Informative, Fun
flawed hero

I had fun reading this book. The writing style is definitely dated, and it took a bit of adjusting, but the author's wordiness actually painted a fairly detailed image of the times, and the thoughts of the protagonist.

I didn't like Peter Blood at the start, he seemed to self-confident- cocky, arrogant, sort of know-it-all- but as he found himself in new situations, the character expanded and revealed flaws so that readers could empathise.

We hired out the movie of "Captain Blood", a black-and-white film with Errol Flynn from 1935. The story lost much of its complexity, but was still a swashbuckling adventure..
