My Reviews
Moments of beautiful descriptive clarity among a group of constantly drunk friends exploring their relationships while witnessing the fiesta and bullfights in Spain.
Each character in the novel has a different story and each is developed to different levels. Some stories more interesting than others.
Edith Wharton's novel of Lily Bart's life among and around the fantastically pretentious and wealthy society which she longs to be a part of but not enough to compromise her moral character.
Wharton's prose is highly descriptive yet concise and brings the characters and their surroundings to vibrant life. Introspective and timeless.
This book is written by a Navy SEAL. The first part of the book describes the training required to become a Navy SEAL. The second part of the book is about Operation Redwing. It was humbling to read about the battle and the tenacity of the SEALs. It was enlightening and once Operation Redwing begins, riveting. After reading this book, I want to thank the men and women of the armed forces who serve and protect our country every day!
Another story about Nazi Germany but told from a different point of view. The author's characterization of Death as the narrator provided an interesting theme throughout the book. His personification of Death along with Death's sometimes lyrical prose added greatly to the story. I would have liked to hear more from Death's point of view during this tumultuous and deadly era in history.
