My Reviews
This was my first book club selection and still my favorite. I understand why its been on the best seller list for as long as it has. A great, easy read that reminds you the importance of family.
Our book club first read, Itty Bitty Lies by Mary Kay Andrews and decided to try Hissy Fit. It was a great collection of funny moments that made me laugh out loud, especially when Stephanie was introduced. It was a simple, quick read that allowed you to really escape into the world of Keeley Murdock. Two thumbs up!
To me though, it was not one of my favorite books from our book club selections.
The main character in the story did not impress me much, but thought that the story in itself was intersting enough to finish and see the outcome.
When I first started reading this book, I didn't know what I got myself into. I was amazed with Augusten Burroughs life. I was a little mortified, disgusted, and amazed that he not only lived this life, but was able to turn his life around enough to be where he is in life now. It wasn't a tear jerker, it wasn't a sad complaint of existance, it was just the life of a young boy who went through a lot. It was nice to compare it to my own life and realize that you never know what other people are going through. I am half way through his other memoir, Dry, and it is great as well.
I thought this book was intersting. It was great to hear the perspective of a mother who went through so much with her daughter. I personally could not relate to much of the story because I do not have any children, but I felt like screaming at the mother many times throughout the story for being such a pushover and allowing her daughter to do what she did. I was not in that situation, but realized that when I do have a daughter or son, I will not follow in the footsteps on this mother.
I was not impressed with this book. The actual description of the book sounded very intriguing and I was interested to see what evolved. I was very disappointed. The plot was very descriptive, too much for me, and it was just unrealistic. I felt like I had to skip over sections just to finish the book. The last chapter was completely shocking and made me so mad because I spent all this time reading this story, hoping for something near the end. When I was finished, I was still left with a lot of questions.
This book was my first book of Jodi Picoult's. I have now read every one of her books and am in the middle of her latest, Nineteen Minutes. Jodi Picoult has a great style of writing and My Sister's Keeper is a great story of a family struggling with what is right and wrong. I recommend this book to everyone and hope you love it as much as I did!
I am a HUGE fan of Jodi Picoult and was very excited when our book club seleceted this book as our next book. I must tell you that even though it is over 400 pages, I finished the book in 4 days. Instead of wondering who was going to be the next American Idol or who was the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby, I was wrapped up in this story. I would read it as soon as I got home from work, in the car on my way to work at stop lights and decided life would just have to wait in order to complete this book.
Once again Jodi Picoult created such a realistic story that I started to actually feel bad for the main character Peter, even though he did terrible things. I am a school teacher and listening to the accounts of what happened that day really made me think about being aware of my surroundings at school and making sure that each child is protected and monitored. If only someone knew what Peter was feeling, maybe this event could have been stopped.
Whenever someone asked me about my favorite book, I would say, My sister's keeper, but Nineteen Minutes is now tied for 1st place. I hope you too enjoy this great book! Happy Reading!
