The Lost Symbol

This was a typical Dan Brown book - fun to read, many twists and turns. It was not my favorite Dan Brown but it could prompt interesting discussions about life choices.

Great read!

I found this book to have several interesting subplots that made you think about life's branches and the choices we all make. It is fun to read and you will want to finish it. If you have any thoughts of the the many possibilities of the soul - you will find it thought provoking as well. I have recommended it to others to read. It is not as confusing with timelines as The Time Travelers Wife but you do need to pay attention. Loved it!

The Girl that kicked the Hornet's Nest

Awesome final book of the Trilogy! Definitely have to read the first two books first. Pretty long and characters are very detailed but it keeps your attention. Like the other two once you are at the halfway point, it is hard to put down.

Still Alice

Don't miss reading this book. I almost did and I would have regretted it. Still Alice gives so much insight into the world of Alzheimer's from the perspective of the inflicted. It was catching from the beginning. I was able to put myself in Alice's shoes and live the ride. Not a great ride but a very thought provoking and for me emotional ride. My book club is reading this in February and I can't wait to see what everyone else thought. It will be a great discussion I think. Don't miss this book - it is a fast read but worth every laugh, disturbing thought, and tear!

We discussed for almost two hours. This is a memorable book and one of our members said this is why she joined book club - for books like this. The book had so many dimensions to discuss - it was lively and interesting. We would recommend it!

Shadow of the Wind

I decided to pre-read this book as a possible book club pick and was addicted by the time I finished the second chapter. The interconnection of the two stories was well done and not totally predictable. The writing was lovely and descriptions of a war torn Spain were amazing. Thanks for sharing this excellent story! I am making it my choice for our next book club!

Book club read it (with excellent Spanish Tapas to boot!!). All but one liked it and seven LOVED it!! I think it is a thumbs up from us!

Anthropology of an American Girl

The author was very descriptive and I could picture the scenes very well. The musical references were fabulous - we made a playlist that ran during the book club discussion. I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved portions but it needed to be 200 pages shorter so that you did not get lost in the descriptions. It made for a nice discussion about parenting, teenagers, and controlling people.

Very interesting book that I think will drive a lot of cultural discussion for our group. Glad I read it but it was not as awesome as I had hoped. The writer is a bit nuts as a parent but it ends nicely. Take the time to read it!

The 13th Hour

I really enjoyed this book. It got you involved early and had a great balance of revealing information as it progressed. I loved the characters and the concept. I really enjoyed the thought provoking ending! A great choice!

Love in the Time of Cholera

This book is whimsical and dramatic but it was so descriptive that it was a slow read. I am glad we read it (I still have to finish it). The writing is well done.

A 40 first dates concept with a Shutter Island mystery. I enjoyed it and the discussion for book club was interesting. I would recommend!

1Q84

Interesting concept and well written but too repetitive, unnecessarily sexual, and long. I liked the characters but I think the entire book would have been better if half the size and did not assume the reader could not follow the plot. I was disappointed.
