My Reviews
This is a behind the scenes look at Charleston, SC with its odd and diverse characters. Akin to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil but not quite as weird. For those that know Charleston, this is a very interesting book. Even if you don't, it will inspire you to go!
For those who don't know much about WWII and the Japanese, this book is eye opening. It is a bit hard to get into but well worth the push through. It is a true story! This is one of those reads for when your club wants to learn something from your monthly selection. I recommend this book.
We had about a 50/50 like vs. dislike on this one at our club. Many thought the book's title didn't explain the author's view. They felt like the author was very negative about all types of people and was a black and white thinker. I had several "aha" moments in this book when recognizing people who were already in my life in his descriptions. Interesting sort of 'self help' book for people who want to improve relationships in their life.
