My Reviews
I had higher expectations after being sucked into The Eight. A good story, but didn't live up to my wishes.
This story grabbed me right away. The "Help" were powerful in their own ways when they could be. I loved that Skeeter did what she could do in that situation, in the process bringing out her own power. The mother issues that were brought up left me thinking long afterwards.
I have to admit, I had to finish the book. The story did hold me, but I kept waiting for some brightness somewhere and the only place I found it was in the change in the family relationship. But I did not like how I felt after the story was finished.
Once I got through the slow start, I was hooked by this book. Written from a different WWII perspective than I'd previously read, I was in tears at the end.
