My Reviews
I thought the book was good. It definitely wasn't my favorite Dan Brown book, and while some new and interesting concepts presented themselves in the novel, I was slighly disappointed I will admit. But overall, I enjoyed it.
Wow! One of my favorite books! The storytelling is brilliant and haunting, which really made me feel every single word the author wrote. While deeply emotional and at times, tear producing, this book really touched me, and made me think and feel in a way that very few books Ive read have.
I liked "The Help" very much. I thought it was an interesting portrayal of the relationships that can exist amongst people if they can see beyond their prejudice and judgment of others. I really identified with Miss Skeeter and her need and desire to be something bigger and better than the expectations of those around her who resisted change. Someone mentioned that they didn't feel like the characters were fully developed. I thought about this, and my conclusion on this statement is that I don’t think we as readers were supposed to have a concrete finality in these characters. I think that we’re supposed to feel their message. The power and message of the book comes from beginning a journey with these three women, hearing their voices, and seeing their struggles but also, having the ability to channel our own feelings so that our individual imaginations determine what becomes of these three women in the end. Overall, I found this to be a very good read!
The book wasn't great and it wasn't horrible either. It's sort of somewhere in the middle. I liked John Tyree as a character, but I thought Savannah was pretty annoying. Good as a quick read, or like someone else said, a "beach read."
A well written story with strong characters, Look Again is a quick read that is suspenseful and interesting. I enjoyed this book.
I liked the overall idea of this book. I felt like the thoughts expressed on meditation, food, and love were good and inspired thought about how to approach my own life. I wasn't as blown away as Oprah or many of those who read this book, but I found it to be a pretty good read overall.
I really enjoyed Sarah's Key. It's a very touching, intense story with a historical backdrop that really makes you think and want to know more. Great book. Easy, page turner, read.
I really loved this book. I thought the author did an amazing job of painting an overall picture that really engages the reader. When she describes the circus, I could smell the popcorn and feel the excitement of opening night. I felt like I was there! I was emotionally invested in the characters, and I really felt their highs and lows as the story progressed. It's an easy page turner of a read with a touching story about love (between people, between man and animal, and man and circus), and a really interesting look at the depression era circus. Loved it!!!
The Hunger Games is one of my new favorite books. It does a great job of depicting the struggles and conflicts of war as it takes the reader on an emotionally charged and intense journey with the books young heroine, Katniss Everdeen. It touches on aspects of government domination, poverty, the human spirit that refuses injustice, the genuine love of family, the guts it takes to stand up to what's wrong and make it right.....it's really great! A page turner with characters you'll get very attached to. I highly recommended this book, and the two that follow. The entire story is really compelling and well written.
I really fell in love with the character Christopher Boone. I thought that the the way the book was written from the perspective of this character, who is autistic, was a really interesting twist. I liked how it describes the relationships a boy like Christopher has with those around him. And I really thought that the book presented itself in a way that sent the message that despite our limitations, everyone, even someone like Christopher is capable of remarkable things. I can see why it may not be for some people, but I loved it.
I have to say, I blew through the 50 Shades Trilogy in about 3 days. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I can see how others might not. It can get a little corny at times, but over all I think it did for me what a good book should do. It transports one into a different world which they get lost in. I've always had an affinity for male characters like the main character in these books, so the trilogy won me over pretty quickly.
I am not really sure how I feel about Gone Girl. I didn't dislike it per say, but I couldn't really like it because I just found it to be really unbelievable and at times, ridiculous. I couldn't get behind any of the characters either because I thought they were all really annoying, shallow, and self-absorbed. I did find it to be suspenseful and psychologically interesting at times, but the climax of that suspense was always a letdown because I just couldn't buy into the actions and ultimate motivations of the characters.
