My Reviews
Great topics of discussion for this book. Many points of view coming from the German Army, Italian residents, American forces, and the Resistance fighters. The list of characters in the front was so much help in keeping them all straight. You have such compassion for all the characters and how they struggled within themselves to just stay alive and how they dealt with their decisions.
We had a great discussion with this book. It definitely made us all think who would be that one person that we would like to talk to if we could have one more day to spend together. Most felt that it made them think far beyond the reading of this book and we are still thinking about it and discussing it from time to time. It certainly made us all think that we should be taking every day slower and spending more time in thinking about our conversations with those important to us.
Excellent book.
We really enjoyed this book. The Author's way of using the Gatsby's and some of the other characters was very interesting. Good for discussion.
Great discussion on another twist to the goal of positive thinking. Isn't done enough. People of all ages should talk about some of the aspects of thinking your way to success.
Excellent book for discussion as it had so many areas of interest, from teenage pregnancy to disfunctional families in small communities. So many characters to analyze as well.
We all were hesitant to read it but thoroughly enjoyed the book and the lively discussion that followed.
We thought this book was one of our favorites. It was such an in depth description of the historic voyage and survival of the passengers and crew on board the boats going to Canada during WWI carrying so many of England's children escaping the ravages of the German bombs. We would recommend it for any book club and it would also be a good book of study for College students.
We enjoyed the history and descriptions of the life of those involved with the circus during that period. There was so much to talk about with all the personalities involved.
Would recommend it for a great group discussion.
We thoroughly enjoyed the historical look at the life of Geisha. It was interesting to see how women were treated in Japan during the 1930-1950 era and we had a great discussion on all aspects of the book.
We have read several books relating to WWII but found this one very well written and spellbinding.
Very wordy book, author put a lot of detail in every sentence and detail. We all struggled to get through this book.
We loved this book. There were so many stories within this story. Not only was this a love story, it was also very insightful into the lives of those Japanese who were interned during WWII.
This classic was better reading at 60 than at 20! Great thriller and love the author's use of the english language.
We loved this Author! Her writing was done so well we all decided to try and read another of her novels. We would definitely recommend this for a great discussion.
We loved the Author and want to read the other books he has written.
Great discussion book.
We found the book confusing and the writer left a lot of questions at the end of the book.
We loved this book and learned so much about Chicago architecture. Some of us who read it on iPad. Or Kindle are ordering book just to have in our library
Well done!
Hard to read in the 18th century style of writing. Very wordy and difficult to read.
We loved the mystery and liked the Author's way of describing things very much.
What a dramatic depiction of life in an oppressed country. Should be reading material in high schools everywhere!
We found this book difficult to read as the author jumped around a lot but all agreed it was so interesting that we would recommend it.
Classics are always such a joy to read. We loved this one and found it an interesting lesson on a woman\\\'s role in those times.
We all read at least part of the book to start then it became so clinical that we rented the movie, invited the community, then viewed it at our Life Span Center Theater. Wonderful way to understand all aspects of Autism. Oh my, we all cried, laughed, appreciated so much the plight of the family involved. We also had a member whose daughter is the Mother of an Autistic 13 yr.old son so she gave so much to our discussion.
Very insightful into the lives of Japanese in that time period. Love learning about other cultures and would recommend it to others.
We liked the concept but felt it moved slowly and was a little long.
This was a slow book to get into, but once we got into it we loved it. The Irish accents were interesting and we loved the way the main character interjected her thoughts during the book. We hope to read some of her other books.
Very informative piece of history, loved the summary of characters at the end, great discussion on this book, but a bit wordy.
This was one of those wonderful and inspiring books that we all loved and had a long discussion directing all aspects of this novel. I am saving it for my daughters to read and cherish .
Loved this book! We all enjoyed the lighthearted way it was written and just a good read..
